Integrative Psychotherapy, is a fusion of different psychology theory, psychotherapy orientations and self development models within the field of psychology. This unification of knowledge ensures a broad perspective of the human sciences and allows for a multifaceted and holistic approach to psychotherapy practice that is tailored to the individual. Below are descriptions of some of methods I draw upon in my practice.
Counselling centres on listening to you, and supporting you. You decide which issue concerning your childhood or adulthood you explore. The aim of counselling is to enable you to speak about a difficulty and discover a way forward that is appropriate for you.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye movement desensitisation reprocessing directs your eye movements to stimulate how your brain processes data. The procedure endeavours to reprocess your locked traumatic memories. The aim of EMDR is to desensitise your upsetting memories.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) (England and Wales) indicates EMDR for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Psychotherapy focuses on you, and you gaining insight into the problems you confront. It explores your ideas, emotions and relevant events in your history. Psychotherapy intends to help you develop or discover appropriate methods of managing.
Transpersonal therapy considers your intellect, body and soul. It perceives the issues you encounter as opportunities for you to develop. Transpersonal therapy intends to help you acknowledge your human ability.
The common thread between these techniques is a focus on bringing what we talk about in our sessions into the real world. My aim is to make therapy relevant in your lived life through reflections, remembered experiences, the practicing of new behaviours, and the unfolding of new potential.
